Introducing Heat Shrink Cap Technology.
ProPulse securely seals ends of hydraulic hose assemblies, providing a superior alternative to traditional caps and plugs.
ProPulse®, a manufacturer of hose for high-pressure fluid conveyance, announces that it will begin using heat shrink technology to encapsulate the ends of their hydraulic hose assemblies to preserve cleanliness.
Cleanliness in hydraulic hose assemblies is becoming increasingly important to the marketplace because today’s hydraulic systems utilize extremely tight tolerances. Finished hose assemblies need to maintain a specified cleanliness level from the time the assembly is built until it is installed—either on the OEM’s production line or in the field.
The traditional method used by hose manufacturers to keep hoses clean from contamination is to install injection molded plastic caps or plugs to cover all open hose ends. Despite best efforts, this status quo approach to capping and plugging can still cause contamination — especially if these threaded caps and plugs are snug-fitting and difficult to remove, causing plastic particles to shear off into the hose during removal, or if they are too loose, causing them to dislodge during transit. The heat shrink seal caps provide a secure fit in any capacity and are designed for easy removal precisely at the time of installation.
We are excited to bring heat shrink seal cap technology to our hydraulic hose manufacturing process.Unlike the caps and plugs our customers are accustomed to, this technology not only leaves our hose assemblies tightly sealed but it also provides advantages to our customer at the time of installation.
In common practice, assemblers often take off the caps and plugs ahead of time because it takes so long to remove threaded caps or requires the use of pliers to remove the plugs. The seal cap uses a tear strip that can be removed in just seconds. This improves the customer’s speed of assembly and further mitigates the risk of contamination by keeping the hose covered until the exact moment of installation
ProPulse believes in growth through innovation. “The hydraulic market is requiring increased hose cleanliness, greater compliance with standards to ensure safety for operators and equipment, and the minimization of costly downtime,” says ProPulse VP of Sales & Marketing, Ryan Humphrey. “Introducing this technology for sealing and securing the initial cleanliness of our hydraulic hose assemblies is an example of the significant investments we are making to further define the quality of our manufacturing.”

Twenty-five years ago, Schieffer Co. International opened in Peosta with just six employees in a 12,000-square-foot facility. In the two and a half decades since, the hose manufacturer has changed its name and expanded exponentially. Now known as ProPulse, a Schieffer Company, it employs 130, utilizes 130,000 square feet of space, and is celebrating its silver anniversary in March. “25 years is a long time,” said Jeff Theis, President and CEO of ProPulse, “but I believe ‘blink of an eye’ is appropriate when describing our journey.”
